What browsers do you design for?
We develop our sites to display correctly in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera and Safari. Too often you see sites not displaying properly, usually it is because of differences in how all of the browsers interpret the HTML code. Rendering Effects will make sure that no matter what browser your customer is using the site will display correctly. We do this by building our website to be W3C compliant and then testing your site in the current set of browsers.
Can I monitor my site to see how many visitors I am getting?
Yes. Site statistics are critical information for the performance of your web site. They help you find out how many people are visiting your site, and where they are coming from. They can tell you how many visitors are coming through search engines, and which key phrase they are using.
We use Google Analytics to monitor the traffic of your website. Every Rendering Effects customer is set up with a Google account that gives them access to this feature as well many other great Google features.
For our customers who don't access their Google accounts and would prefer a print out, Rendering Effects can send you a print out of your site statistics for a small fee. Contact us for more information.
Do you do website maintenance?
Site maintenance is very important to the success of a web site. Without fresh content being added regularly your visitors will have no reason to keep returning.
We can update your site as often as needed. We can also advise you on how to add interesting content that will have your visitors returning regularly. For maintenance pricing please check our Design Page.
Will I be able to maintain my website once it's done?
If maintaining your own site is important to you than we can offer design and set up of a Content Management System (CMS). We will set you up with a web-based content management system that will give you the ability to change the text, images, documents, and links whenever you want. CMS that we support: Google's Page Creator Blogger MySpace
Once the site is live and your domain resolves to your site you take the reigns and you will be responsible for site maintenance/updates.
Can you help me with my current website?
Unfortunately, in most cases the answer is no. We have found that in most cases, if someone comes to us looking for "help" with their current site the only option is usually to start all over. This is because many websites are improperly coded the first time around, and usually the html is such a mess that the best thing to do is throw it out and start fresh.
It actually takes us more time to sort through someone else's code in order to update than it does for us to simply rebuild the site. So in the long run it would be cheaper for you to have a new website than it would for you to have your current site updated.
What if I'm a designer... I already have a site designed, I just need the html coded? Or I'm a developer... I don't need help with the coding, but I need someone to come up with a great design for me?
No problem! Although we specialize in both the custom design and development of complete sites, we realize sometimes you only need one or the other. If you are a developer and need help with a design, we would be happy to design the site for you, and provide you with the final layered Photoshop file that you can code yourself
Alternatively, there are many designers who prefer to focus strictly on design. If this is the case, you can leave the coding to us! Send us your layered Photoshop mock-up and we will code the html for you.
What do you need to get started on my website?
Proper content is very important for the development of your website or project. We will need the following:
- Logo in digital format (if applicable)
- Color preferences
- Mission statements
- Pictures (store fronts, employees, products .etc)
- A list and description of all products/services provided by your company
- About information (detailed information about your companies history and current state)
- Contact information (location, phone, email, address .etc)
These are the basic things that we will absolutely need to get started. Without them, the development process will take much longer.
What file formats do I need to save my content in for you?
We request that all content be given to Rendering Effects in the following formats:
- Images in .jpg .png .gif .tiff or .psd format
- Text in virtually any text document format except pdf. Unless you are familiar with pdf format and aware of how to embed fonts and properly save out the file.
If this is not possible, then print photos or brochures may be used for Rendering Effects to scan and optimize. If digital content is not received, additional fees may be included to cover the expense of content preparation. Rendering Effects will notify you if this is the case.

What is the difference between Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting and Shared/Virtual Hosting?
Most Web Hosting companies offer "VIRTUAL" or "SHARED" hosting. This means you literally share your resources, applications and environment with potentially hundreds of other users in the same directory. This configuration can allow any compromises to a single site to affect the performance and security of everyone else on the same server. With WestHost’s Virtual Private Server (VPS Hosting), also known as Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS Hosting) technology, a web server is divided into multiple isolated environments. Each environment has its own server software providing independence for that website. Any compromise to a site would only affect that VPS and could not affect any other site on the same server. As with a dedicated server, each VPS has its own independent operating system with its own web server, mail server and independent software instances. A crashed application (Apache, Sendmail, MySQL etc.) in another client's VPS has no effect on your VPS.
Do you offer Windows based hosting?
We believe in the stability and reliability of Linux based servers. The largest share of the internet today is run on Linux/UNIX servers. In order for us to keep costs low we will to continue to utilize a LAMP based server system. The acronym LAMP refers to a solution stack of software, usually open source software.
